Portraits - Oil on Canvas

|
There is so much to read in a human face.
Whenever I create a portrait painting, it always feels like I am staring into a mirror. In the beginning I will see the mask reflected from the other side of the mirror. As I go through each line around the eyes, the shadows below the cheeks and the angle beside the lips, I can almost see smiles and worries. If I stare long enough, I may see myself.
That is why I named my first group of portraits the "Self Reflection Series." The fear and longing I found in these portraits deeply connected myself to the world around me. The complex human emotions are also a sharp contrast to the absolute purity of the flowers in my other studies.
As you may have noticed, there is much uncertainty in these works - a clear evidence of the struggles and adventures of a growing artist.
